Physalis ist auch bekannt unter dem Namen Kapstachelbeere. Sie wächst ursprünglich in warmen Regionen und ist eine Verwandte der Tomate. Sie entwickelt orangefarbene, runde Früchte, die einer kleinen Tomate ähneln, die aber von einer papier-ähnlichen Hülle aus Kelchblättern umgeben sind. Sie haben einen einzigartigen säuerlich-fruchtigen Geschmack. Man kann sie frisch verzehren oder zu Marmelade, Desserts und Chutneys verarbeiten.

Aussaat & Anbau:
Aussaat von Februar bis April in Vorkultur einzeln in Töpfen. Nur wenig mit Erde bedecken. Auspflanzen oder Umpflanzen in Kübel nach dem letzten Frost. Die Pflanzen brauchen einen geschützten, sonnigen Platz und einen sandigen Boden. Nährstoffreiche Böden ermutigen die Pflanze ihre Kraft in Blätter, statt in Früchte zu stecken. Regelmäßig gießen, aber Staunässe vermeiden. Physalis kann Temperaturen bis 3°C gut aushalten und in sonnigen geschützten Standorten, kann sie sogar bis -10°C überleben.
