Staudenbeete in einheitlicher Farbe ist eine Art der individuellen Gartengestaltung. Der Ährige Ehrenpreis, mit dem botanischen Namen Veronica spicata, passt somit ideal zu einem Blumenarrangement mit Rittersporn, Lupinen, Bergastern u.ä. Der Ährige Ehrenpreis wird oft auch Ähriger Blauweiderich genannt und ist eine heimische Art. Als gefährdet wurde sie eingestuft und steht in Deutschland auf der Roten Liste, und ist somit nur noch selten in der freien Natur zu bewundern. Er liebt Schotter, Dünen, trockene Kiesfeld-, Fels- und Sandtrockenwiesen sowie Steppenheiden. Somit sollte der Boden zum optimierten Wuchs der Staude trocken, gut durchlässig, lehmig-sandig und humos sein. Dort gedeiht die Veronica spicata am besten und erfreut das Auge des Betrachters mit unzähligen, kleinen, einfachen Blüten die in Ähren angeordnet sind.

Der Ährige Ehrenpreis ist eine mehrjährige Staude, die Sonne liebt. Wenn sie einen optimalen Platz im Garten gefunden hat, wächst sie in einer Höhe bis zu 30 Zentimetern und mit einer Wuchsbreite bis maximal 30 Zentimeter. Der Hobbygärtner sollte nicht mehr als 17 Pflanzen pro Quadratmeter Gartenfläche anpflanzen. Als Hintergrundbepflanzung im Steingarten in Solitär- oder Einzelstellung, wie auch in Rabatten, Gruppen und im Staudenbeet ist der Ährige Ehrenpreis heimisch.
