Die Akelei Blue Columbine stammt aus den USA, wo sie vor allem in den Rocky Mountains vorkommt und dort ist sie die Wappenblume des Bundesstaates Colorado. In Europa war die Akelei schon im Mittelalter eine beliebte Pflanze in hiesigen Kräutergärten. Heute ist die anspruchslose Pflanze mit den farbenfrohen, filigranen Blüten ein beliebter Akzent in den Gärten. Die Pflanzen werden ca. 30 – 60 cm hoch.

Aussaat & Anbau:
Ab Ende April kann man die Samen einfach locker ausstreuen. Zwischen Oktober und März kann man die Stauden auch durch Teilung vegetativ vermehren. Aquilegia mag sowohl sonnige als auch halbschattige Standorte und braucht einen gut durchlässigen und nähstoffreichen Boden, der möglichst kalkhaltig sein sollte. Bei längerer Trockenheit müssen die Pflanzen gegossen werden. Starke Wurzelkonkurrenz mögen Akeleien an ihrem Standort eher weniger.
