Sein Ruf wurde gleichermaßen durch romantische Naturpoesie und kitschigen Heimatfilm gefödert. Als Wildpflanze ist es aufgrund seiner Beliebtheit und das wilde Pflücken bedingt durch den steigenden Alpentourismus enorm selten geworden. Es wurde als eine der ersten Pflanzen unter Naturschutz gestellt, es zu sammeln ist strengstens verboten.

Aussaat & Anbau:

Die Aussaat erfolgt erfolgt ab April direkt ins Freiland. Ab Juni trägt das Alpen-Edelweiß silberweiße Blüten. Das Alpen-Edelweiß ist eine sommergrüne Staude, die lanzettliche Blätter in einem ansehnlichen Silbrig trägt. Als polsterbildend wachsende Staude erreicht Leontopodium alpinum Größen bis zu 25 cm und wird etwa 20 cm breit. Der Boden sollte für das Alpen-Edelweiß durchlässig, kalkhaltig und locker sein, damit es sich optimal entwickeln kann. Dabei sollte die Lage sonnig gewählt werden.
