Anis ist ein hübscher weißblühender Doldenblütler, der bis zu 90 cm hoch werden kann. Die Pflanze ist bekannt für den Lakritz-Geschmack ihrer Blätter und Samen. Man kann die Blätter frisch in Salaten und Suppen verwenden, und die Samen für Gebäck, Kuchen, Desserts und Süßigkeiten. In Mitteleuropa ist es ein beliebtes Brotgewürz und im Mittelmeerraum wird aus Anis Likör hergestellt (Pastis, Ouzo).
Anis ist auch eine alte Heilpflanze, die entzündungshemmend, krampf- und schleimlösend sowie antiviral wirkt. Man setzt sie bei Verdauungsproblemen, Zahnschmerzen und Frauenbeschwerden ein.

Aussaat & Anbau:
Da die Pflanze am besten unter wärmeren Bedingungen wächst, ist ein Vorziehen auf der Fensterbank ab März empfohlen. Im Freiland mögen sie einen vollsonnigen Platz auf nährstoffreichen, eher trockenen Böden. Anis wird im Bauerngarten gerne als Schädlingsschutz für Kohlsorten eingesetzt.
