Mit seiner fingerhutartigen Blütenpracht muss sich der immergrüne Bartfaden keineswegs hinter anderen Stauden verstecken. Ob als farbenfroher Hingucker in Staudenbeeten oder als dekorative Zierpflanze in Steingärten – Penstemon kann vielseitig im eigenen Garten gesetzt werden. Die verschiedenen Sorten des Bartfadens unterscheiden sich nicht nur in Blütenfarbe und Wuchshöhe, sondern stellen auch unterschiedliche Bedingungen an das Substrat. So gelingt es Ihnen beispielsweise auch, kleinere Sorten auf einem mageren Boden problemlos zu kultivieren. Die Pflege der nordamerikanischen Pflanze ist einfach, dennoch sollten selbst robustere Bartfaden-Sorten im Winter keinesfalls sich selbst überlassen bleiben.
Aussaat & Anbau:
Penstemon gehört zu den “kalt keimenden” Pflanzenarten. Um die Keimhemmung der Samen zu brechen, müssen diese zuvor einer Kälteperiode ausgesetzt gewesen sein. Das kann auf zwei Arten geschehen: Lassen Sie der Natur ihren freien Lauf und säen Sie die Samen des Bartfadens bereits im Herbst in die vorbereiteten Beete im Freiland aus. Die Alternative besteht darin, die Samen für ungefähr 3 Wochen in den Kühlschrank zu legen und im Frühjahr selbst auf der heimischen Fensterbank zu ziehen.
