Der Schlafmohn ist ein einjähriger Fransenmohn. In Gärten ist diese Blume vor allem wegen ihrer Schönheit als Zierpflanze bekannt. Dieser Mohn hat eine schöne dunkelrote und weiße Farbe mit gefransten Blütenblättern. Das macht diese Blume zu einem Blickfang in jeder Blumenrabatte. Die Blüten sind sowohl vor als auch während der Blüte gut sichtbar. Vor der Blüte hängen die Blütenköpfe mit geschlossenen Kelchblättern nach unten. Wenn sie blühen, färben sie den Garten mit einem schönen rot-weißen Muster, das an die dänische Flagge erinnert. Die Blüten können sogar das Wetter vorhersagen. Wenn Regen droht, klappen die Blüten zusammen. Daher der Name Schlafmohn.

Aussaat & Anbau:
Die Samen dieser einjährigen Blume werden am besten zwischen April und Mai ausgesät. 1 bis 2 Gramm lose Samen pro Quadratmeter reichen für eine sehr reiche Blüte. Die Blumen gedeihen auf fast allen Böden, wenn sie vor der Aussaat leicht umgegraben werden. Am besten bedeckt man die Blumensamen mit etwa einem Zentimeter Erde, es kann aber auch ausreichen, sie einfach anzudrücken. Die Erde in den ersten zwei Wochen leicht feucht halten.
