Obwohl der Perpetual Spinat zur gleichen Familie wie Mangold gehört, unterscheidet er sich in einem Merkmal recht deutlich. Der Geschmack ist Spinat sehr viel ähnlicher als dem des Mangold. Auch optisch ähneln die Blätter eher Spinat. Es sind zugespitzte, schlanke Blätter an langen schmalen Stielen. Der Perpetual Spinat verträgt Hitze bedeutend besser als anderes Blattgemüse und ist dadurch auch in der heißen Jahreszeit ein frischer und knackiger Vitamin C Lieferant.

Description
Aussaat & Anbau:
Der Spinat sollte am besten ab März in einer Vorkultur im Haus gezogen werden. Ab Mitte Mai kann man die Pflanzen paarweise auf 2m² vereinzeln. Der Wuchs startet recht langsam, legt dann aber deutlich zu. Es empfiehlt sich ein sonniger Standort mit guter Wasser- und Nährstoffversorgung. Aber auch schlechtere Bedingungen halten ihn nicht von einem ordentlichen Wuchs ab. Aufgrund seiner bodendeckenden Wuchsform eignet er sich auch hervorragend als Unterpflanzung für andere Gemüsesorten.
